Hamburger Tampiquena
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, sliced thin
1 teaspoon chile powder
1 teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 can (4 total) whole green chiles
4 slices asadero cheese
(or substitute Monterry Jack)
½ cup salsa
2 tablespoons ketsup
4 sandwich (or hamburger) buns
Shape meat into 4 patties. In a skillet, over medium heat, brown patties on both sides. Top each patty with seasonings and onion ring slices. Reduce heat and cover skillet. Simmer for 5 minutes.
Uncover skillet and top each patty with 1 whole green chile and slice of cheese. Re-cover skillet and cook 3 minutes longer.
In a small bowl, combine salsa and ketsup. Place patties on toasted buns and serve with salsa mixture.
